The Basics

Everyone plays their own ball. On each hole, the best (lowest) score from each team counts. The other score is thrown out.

How to Play

Both teammates play the hole fully. Compare the lower score from each team. That's the team score for the hole. Lowest team total wins.

Scoring

Team score = best individual score per hole from each pair.

Strategy Tips

Best ball is great because one player can have a bad hole and it doesn't matter — as long as your partner comes through. Communicate. If your partner is in good shape, take a risk.

Variations

"Four-ball" is the official term used in tournaments. Same thing. Some groups play best ball with handicap strokes applied.
